FAQ

  • What types of dance do you offer?

At Danceverse in Portland, Oregon, we offer a wide variety of dance classes for ages 6–18, including jazz, hip hop, ballet, tap, lyrical, contemporary, and tumbling/acrobatics.

  • Do I need previous dance experience to start?

No prior dance experience is required to join Danceverse. Our private lessons are designed to accommodate all skill levels, from beginners just starting out to advanced dancers preparing for competitions. Every dancer receives personalized instruction tailored to their experience and goals.

  • How do private lessons differ from group classes?

Unlike group classes, where instruction is generalized to accommodate multiple dancers, private lessons allow for focused attention on technique, performance, and individual challenges. Dancers can work on mastering specific skills, improving turns, jumps, or flexibility, and receiving personalized feedback in real time. This individualized approach accelerates progress, builds confidence, and helps dancers achieve their full potential faster than in a traditional group setting.

  • Can I pick my own music and costume for choreography?

Absolutely! Dancers are welcome to bring their own music and costumes for choreography or competition prep sessions. Our instructors will work with your chosen music to design a routine that highlights your dancer’s strengths and fits the rhythm, style, and energy of the piece.

  • What should I wear to class? Are shoes provided?

Dancers should wear comfortable, form-fitting clothing that allows full range of motion. This can include leotards, leggings, dance shorts, or fitted t-shirts. Appropriate footwear depends on the style of dance—ballet slippers, jazz shoes, tap shoes, or sneakers for hip hop. Hair should be secured away from the face to allow for safe movement and proper technique. Shoes are not provided.

  • How often should I take private lessons to see progress?

The frequency of private lessons depends on your dancer’s goals and schedule. For steady improvement in technique, strength, and performance quality, we recommend at least one private lesson per week. Dancers preparing for auditions or competitions may benefit from two or more sessions weekly to accelerate progress.

  • How far in advance should I book choreography sessions before a competition?

We recommend booking choreography sessions at least 6 months before a competition to allow enough time for routine creation, rehearsal, and performance refinement. Early booking ensures that dancers can work closely with instructors to perfect technique, musicality, and stage presence for competitions in jazz, hip hop, ballet, tap, lyrical, or contemporary styles

  • Do you offer monthly membership or package plans?

Yes, Danceverse offers flexible monthly membership and package plans to fit every dancer’s needs and schedule. Whether you’re signing up for 1:1 private lessons, group classes, or competition prep, our plans provide convenient options to ensure consistent training while supporting skill development, technique improvement, and performance readiness.

  • Are there opportunities for performance or recitals?

Yes! At Danceverse, dancers have multiple opportunities to showcase their skills local competitions. These performances allow dancers to apply what they’ve learned in class, build stage confidence, and share their progress with family, friends, and the dance community. We also incorporate performance preparation in private lessons and choreography sessions to ensure dancers shine on stage.
